To activate Optus SIM, login into optus.com.au/activate and have your new Optus Prepaid SIM and some ID handy. Select Keep Your Number. Optus will send you an SMS to verify your number transfer, so please keep your current SIM in your device.
Activating your Optus SIM card is usually a quick and easy process. Here’s a breakdown of the most common methods:
1. Automatic Activation (for most new SIMs):
- If you purchased your SIM online or over the phone: Your SIM card should activate automatically within 4 hours of receiving it. Just insert it into your phone and keep it turned on.
- If it doesn’t activate automatically: Contact Optus customer service.
2. Online Activation (for SIMs purchased from non-Optus stores or for prepaid):
- Go to the Optus activation website: optus.com.au/activate
- Follow the prompts: You’ll need to enter your SIM card number (found on the SIM card or its packaging), personal details, and valid ID information.
3. Activation through the My Optus app (for Flex Plus plans):
- Download the My Optus app: Available on iOS and Android.
- Log in or create an account: You’ll need your Optus account details.
- Go to “Account” > “SIM Management” > “Activate eSIM” (or similar) and follow the prompts.
4. In-store Activation:
- Visit an Optus store: Bring your SIM card and 100 points of ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport).
- An Optus representative will assist you: They’ll activate your SIM and help you set up your plan.
To activate, you’ll need:
Your new Optus prepaid SIM.
A valid form of identification.
Your current SIM in your device if you want to transfer your number.

Yes! Once you get your new SIM you will be able to choose to either keep your number or get a new one
- Head to optus.com.au/activate and have your new Optus Prepaid SIM and some ID handy.
- Make sure your details match those provided to your current mobile provider.
- On Step 3, select Keep Your Number.
- Optus will send you an SMS to verify your number transfer, so please keep your current SIM in your device.
Note: The number must be in use at the time of the transfer, therefore don’t cancel your service with your existing provider.
How long does it take to transfer my number?
You can go through the activation process online at any time, however we can only transfer your number during:
- Mon-Fri: 8am – 8pm.
- Sat: 10am – 6pm.
If you activate outside these hours, your number will remain active with your existing provider until the next transfer day.
Transfer normally takes 15 minutes but can take up to 4 hours.

Is there a cost to transfer my number?
No charge any fees to transfer your number, but if you cancel a contract with another provider early, they may charge you. Be sure to check with your existing provider as Optus is not liable for fees incurred as a result of you transferring your sevice from another carrier.

You can activate your new Prepaid SIM for service at optus.com.au/activate
You will need:-
